What is a Diocesan Middle School Day Camp?

In an effort to reach middle school youth, the Office for Evangelization offers a week long day camp experience for youth in grades 6-8. The goal of the camp is to bring middle school youth together from area parishes to grow in community, understanding of their faith, and relationship with Christ. Middle School Camp activities include games, service, prayer, water sports, community building, and fostering a deeper spiritual understanding on specific topics.

Who should attend the Diocesan Middle School Day Camp?

The Middle School Day Camp is open to all youth who are 5th graders through 7th graders during the current 2015 – 2016 academic year (or rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade youth for the 2016 – 2017 school year.).

What is a Diocesan Middle School Day Camp Counselor?

Although the day camp is run by adults, high school students serve as counselors throughout the week to help with the activities. All rising 11th, 12th grade youth and freshman college-age students are eligible to apply to be a counselor. Middle School camp is designed to affirm and celebrate the roles of the youth as members of our faith community. A counselor’s role is critical as a leader and Christian role model for the campers. Counselors should turn in applications to their youth minister; there are limited spaces for camp counselors.

Adult Chaperones $0
Substitution Fee $25

What does the registration fee cover?

The participant registration fee covers the following:

  • Admission to Day Camp
  • Lunch Monday through Friday
  • Transportation and ticket to Monday’s field trip
  • Transportation and ticket to Water Park
  • T-Shirt featuring the theme logo

What are the requirements for adult chaperones?

For this event, 1 adult is required for every 8 youth who are participating in the Middle School Day Camp. You may not have more than 1 adult for every 6 youth, unless there is a special circumstance. If the ratio is exceeded, you may be charged an additional fee. Each adult, unless tasked with something, is expected to participate in the camp. Each adult chaperone must be in compliance with the Diocesan Safe Environment Policies, which includes completing the following:

  • Screening One Volunteer Form (every 5 years)
  • VIRTUS training (once)

Camp counselors who have turned 18 must also complete these requirements. Please note that parish employees and Catholic school employees have additional screening that must be completed.

How do I register and what are the registration deadlines?

All youth must register through their parish youth coordinator OR Catholic school coordinator. The registration process includes three steps:

  1. Release Form: Print out and distribute the release forms for adults and youth.
  2. Register Participants via the Online Registration System: If you are a youth coordinator, contact the Office for Evangelization via email (evangelization@richmonddiocese.org) or phone (804-622-5159) to get your username and password for the online registration system. This information will be available after May 15, 2016.  All registrations must be entered online by June 29, 2016.
  3. Send payments to the Office for Evangelization: Forward any payments at your earliest convenience. Any unpaid registrations will be invoiced by December 2016. Be sure to include your parish/school name along with a list of participant the payment is for.

PLEASE NOTE:  Cancellations received after June 29, 2016 are non-refundable, regardless of reason for cancellation.
