Youth Minister Retreat

Register Here!

Registration will close Monday, April 15, 2024 at 12noon

Feeling the need to get away and retreat with the Lord?  As people who serve teens, their families, and our parishes, youth ministers sometimes have a hard time making time for the Lord to pour into our own hearts.  This retreat is an opportunity to pause, spend time with the Lord of the universe, and consider how we can lead lives of courageous mercy and trust.  The schedule will provide time for keynote talks, small group discussion, sacraments, and outdoor reflection (weather permitting).  Lunch and dinner will be included on Friday, and breakfast and lunch will be included on Saturday.  Sleeping accommodations are double rooms, with linens provided by the retreat center.

Who should attend this retreat?

The diocesan Youth Minister Retreat is intended for Youth Ministers in the Diocese of Richmond.  If you are a full-time, part-time, or volunteer Youth Minister at your parish, you are invited!  In addition, Youth Ministers may invite a select 1-2 youth ministry volunteers from their parish to register for this retreat.  All attendees must be at least 21 years old.

Where and when is the retreat?

The retreat will take place May 3-4, 2024 at Roslyn Retreat Center near the James River in Richmond, Virginia.

The address is:  8727 River Road, Richmond, VA 23229.  Check in will begin at 10:30am on Friday, May 3, and the retreat will conclude by 3:00pm on Saturday, May 4.

Where will I stay?

All participants will stay in rooms at Roslyn Retreat Center.  Participants will be placed with one other person of the same sex in a room with two beds; you have the option of designating a roommate during the registration process.  A married couple attending together will be placed in a private room together.  Linens and towels are provided by the retreat center.

What is the theme?

The theme is “Courageous Mercy|Trust”, based on the Office for Evangelization theme for the year, “Take Courage.”  We are called by Christ to take courage, but what does that mean for us in youth ministry?  It can be challenging to have mercy with every teen, and it can feel impossible to have the courage to entrust our entire ministries and lives to the Lord.  However, the God of the universe gives us a courageous example of mercy and trust as He loves us through the Passion and into the Resurrection.  Join us as we learn what it truly means to pray “Jesus, I trust in you.”

Who is the keynote speaker?

Beth Davis is our keynote speaker! She is the Director of Ministry Advancement for Blessed is She. In this role she writes curriculum and directs retreats, provides support to parishes and small groups, and develops community from the ground up. She served as a youth minister for eleven years in Flagstaff after earning her degree in Special Education from Western New Mexico University. She is passionate about speaking hope to weary hearts. Her favorite things include being the favorite aunt to her five niece and nephews, making friends everywhere she goes, and whatever book she’s currently reading.

Will sacraments be available?

Yes!  We will celebrate daily Mass on both days, and we will have a time when Reconciliation is available.  In addition, Eucharistic Adoration and other prayer and reflection opportunities will be offered.

What are the costs?

This retreat is $100 per person.  Registration closes on Monday, April 15th at 12noon.  The registration fee includes one night of lodging, lunch and dinner on Friday night, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday in addition to the retreat programming.
