Training Opportunities

The Office for Evangelization desires that all who serve in leadership positions be well equipped and trained to pass on the faith. We offer a number of opportunities throughout the year for youth ministers, young adult leadership, volunteers, and catechists. These formation opportunities should offer a broad range of subjects that hit upon these major areas:

  • Professional/Ministerial Formation
  • Spiritual Formation
  • Human/Communal Formation
  • Academic Formation

For updates on specific training events, please visit our events page.

Professional/Ministerial Formation

Two to three times a year, the Office for Evangelization will offer Deep Waters nights to delve into professional/ministerial formation topics. These topics would include the how to of ministry. Deep Waters nights will be offered on a week night in each of the vicariates. The schedule for the night will include Mass at 6 pm, dinner from 6:45-7:20 pm, and talk (guest speaker) from 7:30-8:15 pm.

Youth Minister Appreciation Dinners

Once a year, youth ministers (staff and volunteer) will be invited to an appreciation dinner provided by the Office for Evangelization. There will be at least one dinner offered in each vicariate. All participants will be invited to nominate someone from their parish for the Youth Worker of the Year Award. There will also be up to 5 winners per vicariate of the Emmaus Award for excellence in youth ministry.

These Appreciation Dinners will include: Mass at 6 pm, dinner from 6:45-7:15 pm, talk (local priest) from 7:15-7:40 pm, and awards from 7:45-8:15 pm.

Spiritual Formation

For Spiritual Formation, the Office for Evangelization will offer a retreat for Youth Ministers. This retreat will be a chance for the youth ministers to step away from their jobs and take time to re-focus on Christ through prayer, discussion, inspirational talks, sacraments, and community.

All who work in a catechetical ministry are encouraged to participate in a one-day diocesan catechetical training provided by the Office for Christian Formation. To find out more information about Pathways and where it is offered, visit the Office of Christian Formation.
